About this book

illa and Me is the first of four unusual stories in this
prize-winning debut collection. It tells the tale of an isolated village
in Eastern Europe, where a young boy befriends a traumatised girl, who
tells him fantastic and darkly bewitching stories. Little by little, the
boy realises that she is trying to tell him something and things draw to an
explosive conclusion as folk tale, myth and reality become ever harder to
tell apart.

About the Author

"Jilla and Me" is set in an eastern European village in the aftermath of a regionalised war; it follows the narrator as he befriends the local outcast Jilla. She is strange, traumatised and remote, yet she opens the narrator's imagination with her fantastic stories. The narrator realises Jilla is trying to tell him something about his village and the people in it, a dark foreboding creeps over him as folk stories, fairytales and reality become hard to tell apart, leading to an explosive conclusion. "Jilla and Me" will form part of a collection of short stories.
