About this book

There are over 2 million privately owned companies in the UK employing over half the workforce and, while most business owners have spent years learning how to run and grow the business, virtually none have any idea about how to sell up until the time comes. Like death, we don't think about leaving and yet, with some simple planning, selling up can become both profitable and more enjoyable. Written by someone who has owned, built up a successful company and sold it, this book explains, in plain terms, how to sell a business. Planning, preparation, employing intermediaries, finding a quality buyer, negotiating a good price and avoiding potential traps are all explained with the candour you would expect from someone that has learnt the hard way.

Comments and Reviews

Exit Strategy does exactly what it says on the cover. -Dave Riches, Eastern Scale Company

A really good read and packed with good ideas. - Philip Sibson, Sales Director - Aquila Business Products Ltd.

About the Author

After training as a marine engineer, Graham Watkins followed a successful career in sales and marketing until 1989 when he incorporated his own company, distributing retail and catering equipment.

The company grew and was sold in 2003 but the experience of dealing with the sale of the business made Graham realise how poorly prepared he had been. There was virtually nothing written to explain how to sell a company and the books that were available were all complicated textbooks, written by accountants or lawyers.

Retired from business, Graham now lives with his wife in a rambling farmhouse in the Brecon Beacons and describes his interests as travelling, farming for pleasure, public speaking and writing.
