Welcome
to discovered authors, the Mayfair based Independent
Publishing House dedicated to supporting new writing
and keeping existing authors' work in print. Our 'Once upon a time' moment happened
in 2005 when ex-Random House Director Graham Miller
founded discovered authors. Over the previous years
it had become clear just how increasingly difficult
it was becoming for new and experienced authors to
become and remain published, due, in part to the
commercial restrictions imposed by publishing houses and the book
trade.
Thus emerged our vision of an Independent Publishing
House dedicated to supporting both new writers and
experienced authors in a variety of different ways.We are privileged to have our headquarters
at John Murray House in the heart of Mayfair and our
whole philosophy is inspired by and draws on the rich
tradition of John Murray Publishing supporting new
writing throughout the last few centuries. It is at
this address that the likes ofByron and Charles Darwin
were discovered; writers and thinkers that were not
afraid to do things their own way and with the support
of John Murray test literary boundaries and impose
their own rules on the publishing world.
Above all our ambition is to support
writers everywhere who have a passion and desire to
see their work in print, whatever their ambitions;
and to help people to understand the world of publishing
so that they are able to take it into their own hands
and define their own corner of it; to democratize
and create the freedom for people like us to do what
we love – that is to write, read and generally
wallow in beautifully and imaginatively crafted books.
So come in and explore our home here
at Number 50, Albemarle Street, the spiritual home
of John Murray and his wealth of literary friends.
Let us take you on a publishing journey with the ghosts
of Byron and Darwin looking over our shoulders and
show you the possibilities we can make into a reality
for your book.
